BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism

Entry Requirements

B in Leisure and Tourism or equivalent Humanities subject.. Grade B in English Language.

What is a Diploma in Travel and Tourism?

This course develops writing and enquiry skills.  It is the equivalent to two GCE A-Levels.  It explores a range of sectors in the Travel & Tourism industry, developing your understanding of key concepts and techniques used in the industry

(see units studied). 

What Will I Study?

12 units over two years.

Year 12:

  • Unit 1 – Investigating the Travel & Tourism Sector
  • Unit 2 – The Business of Travel and Tourism
  • Unit 3 – The UK as a Destination
  • Unit 4 – Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
  • Unit 8 – Long Haul Travel Destinations
  • Unit 6 – Preparing for Employment in Travel and Tourism

Year 13:

  • Unit 15 – Working as a Holiday Representative
  • Unit 12 – Responsible Tourism  
  • Unit 5 – Marketing Travel and Tourism Products and Services
  • Unit 7 – European Destinations
  • Unit 14 – Specialist Tourism
  • Unit 18 – Tourism in Rural Areas

Assessment

All twelve units are coursework-based, there are no examinations.  You must complete all twelve units in order to gain the qualification.

Where Will It Lead?

There are many jobs in the Travel & Tourism industry e.g. Travel Agents, Customer Service, Tour Representative, Hotel work, Public Relations, Administration and many more. 

Also valuable for general office work and administration jobs. The qualification also allows progression to higher education at university or college.
