Our vision is to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Our Grammar Stream students will be encouraged and challenged to become Independent, Compassionate, Articulate and Nurtured.

The aim of our Grammar Streams is to provide our students with an outstanding ‘Grammar-style’ education within Chislehurst School for Girls. We believe in high expectations, challenge, students’ independence and resilience as the pillars of outstanding learning.

Each key stage, students receive specific provision to allow their skills, experiences and academic achievement to progress. This is expected to include supercurricula activities to fully stretch and challenge our students so they are fully prepared for the next stage of their education or career.

The Brilliant Club

The brilliant club 23 05 2022

TBC Logo Lockup Primary RGB 1Recently we had the graduation of our first cohort of scholars in The Brilliant Club. Congratulations to Azaria, Mercy; Sanaa; Samantha; Clarinda Meryem; Tasnia; Chloe; Swati; and Yasmin who achieved great success, in this our second year 10 Scholars programme.

Ms Robinson leads the Exceptional Scholars programme with great enthusiasm and care. It is such a great opportunity to raise awareness of university life and all of the different courses on offer. The girls said that they have learnt how to research, footnote an essay, construct an argument, and read around a subject. The whole process has also given them great academic confidence.

At the graduation ceremony we listened to the keynote speaker: Connor Long-Johnson and his journey into the Brilliant Club team, he did the programme himself when he was younger and learned all the skills we have, which include critical thinking, verbal communication and much more. He wanted us to know that (we) "You have the power—take that knowledge and put shame to the world". He spoke about his journey into university and how the programme made him believe he really did have a chance into getting into an Oxbridge level university, he also learned that these universities are accessible to all. After this, we went onto separate zoom meetings where they debunked some rumours about Oxbridge universities like them being "too hard to get into" and that people just like us "could never get in". Throughout Brilliant Club we were taught how to write University style essays and through this learnt many skills such as resilience and independent learning; this opened many doors as it showed us there is an easy access for all types of people, not just the wealthy and privileged, it is very meritocratic. The Brilliant club has many benefits such as having a step into a university experience, it helps us get into programmes like the Sutton Trust and UniQ that improve those who take the courses chances of an interview later. It was very educational and I'm glad I could take part. Between us we achieved seven 1sts and four 2:1’s and our topic was ‘A recipe for Happiness’. We looked at lots of psychology theories. Our tutor from Cambridge supported our learning in university style. We all can now apply these new skills to our subjects and look toward our journey through GCSE’s and A levels to places at some of the most competitive Universities. Every year a group of year 12 and a group of Year 10 students have the opportunity to take part in the Brilliant Club course. We are given a tutor who is a fellow at one of the Russell group Universities, who visits in school each week for our sessions. We are so pleased we were able to have this experience in school.”
