Delegation of Chinese Headteachers visit CHSFG

Chislehurst School for Girls was delighted to receive a delegation of Chinese Headteachers and the Director of Education for Yiyang Education Bureau, Mr Jianping Cao. The Headteachers were from Yiyang, Hunan province. The visit was coordinated by a good friend to the school, Mrs Gigi Chen, Headteacher of the Chinese School, in Orpington.

The event is part of Chislehurst School for Girls’ outstanding International School status and its developing partnership with China. The Headteachers were curious to find out as much about the English education system as possible. The discussion was wide ranging, covering topics such as: The English curriculum; how we recruit teachers; the length of the school day and how to set up exchanges between Chinese and English schools.

They were particularly impressed with the Bromley Schools’ Collegiate, which is led by Karen Raven, the Headteacher of Chislehurst School for Girls and based at the school, because China also struggles to recruit teachers, but has no school based system. Karen says that she will be looking forward to sharing this innovative idea, when she visits Shanghai in October, as part of Chislehurst School for Girls’ sister school programme, with a delegation of British Headteachers, Gigi and the Mayor of Bromley, Cllr Kim botting.

They also met with the school’s Senior Student Team, in order to learn about student life and academic standards in the U K.
