Key Stage 3 - CORE PE

Overview

Year 7

Two lessons over the two week period.

In the first half term students take part in a baseline test which consists of multiple sporting activities and a step is given for each activity. An average step is given to form their first AP data.

On a rotation, lasting a half term, students will take part in the majority of the following activities: football, netball, trampolining, dance, rounders and athletics.

 Homework is set on SMH once a half term- this reflects GCSE PE theory criteria.

Year 8

Three lessons over the two week period.

Lessons are built upon from the previous year so football, netball, trampolining, dance rounders and athletics are covered. Gymnastics and volleyball are also introduced.

For the majority, activities rotate every half term.

Year 9

One lesson over the two week period.

 Students are in mixed ability groups.

They do an activity for a half term (approx. 3 lessons)

Dance, Fitness, Netball, Trampolining, Rounders, Athletics are offered.

Year 10 + 11

One lesson over the two week period.

Students are in mixed ability groups.

They do an activity for a term (approx. 6 lessons). Students are given options to choose from (dependant on how many teachers are timetabled), and they pick what activity they would like to participate in.

Trampolining, badminton, volleyball, games, dance/Zumba, fitness, rounders and athletics are offered.

Practical

Trampolining

Students are taught the core skills in trampolining that make up KPA of the assessment.

Students are introduced to the routines they will need to perform for their practical assessment.

Netball

Focus on rules of the game and how to apply them to a game situation.

Isolated skills developed for KPA of the practical assessment.

Athletics

As many of the different events are covered so students can decide what event they would like to focus on for their assessment.

*Students are also introduced to how to analyse and evaluate practical performance in preparation for their coursework.

Year 10

5 lessons over the two week timetable-3 are practical and 2 are theory

Practical

Trampolining

Students have a focus on linking skills together to form two 10 bounce routines for their practical assessment.

Netball

Focus on applying rules of the game and skills into a game situation. Students identify what position they want to be assessed in for the practical assessment.

Athletics

Students will pick events they want to focus on and develop for their assessment. Technique and time/distance focus.

 

Year 11
5 lessons over the two week timetable

Theory

One lesson will allocated to theory during this time- use of data.

All lessons will turn to theory.

Recapping chapters-revision for exams.

Revision.

 

 

Practical

Practical assessments will take place.

All students will be filmed for video evidence (requirement by AQA).

 Once a moderation date has been agreed-students will practice for the area they have been selected to perform in.

All practical grades will have been recorded and submitted.

 

Key Stage 5 - A-Level PE

Students are able to further develop their knowledge and performance in their chosen sports by studying PE to an Advanced Level. They study first for the AS Level qualification which, if successful, they can follow with the A2 course.

BTEC Sport – Students can choose this vocational based course where they can study units in Anatomy, Nutrition, and Sports Coaching.
